Isotropic point source specification

Isotropic point source specification

Postby eaudegbe » Fri Sep 02, 2016 3:16 pm

Thank you for making this software available. I have been able to successfully run the parallel version of the CAN4 validation case.

I am exploring the possibility of adapting FDSim3D for my research application in exploration seismology, and I had the following questions

1. Is it possible to specify an explosive (isotropic) point source at the top surface of the geologic model?

2. Would it alternatively be possible to approximate this isotropic point source with the “impinging plane P-wave” source type and setting the depth to zero? Or can you suggest a better way?

Thank you and I look forward to your response.

I apologize for late answer.

There is possibility to specify also explosive (isotropic) source. It is the same as double-couple source but you have to prescribe all three variables strike SFIS, dip SDEL and rake SLAM equal to -1.

There is no possibility to prescribe plane wave incidence with depth equal to 0.
